The Babcock Bubble: Our Greatest Asset or Our Biggest Liability?
Living on campus at Babcock is like living in a bubble—a beautiful, structured, insulated bubble. But is that preparing us for reality?
Outside these gates, Nigeria is hustling, innovating, and surviving in ways we don't see. While we're in class, people our age are navigating Lagos traffic for opportunities, building businesses out of necessity, and facing challenges that don't exist in our protected environment.
I'm grateful for Babcock's safety and structure, but I worry: Are we being prepared, or are we being sheltered?
Here's my proposal. Let's intentionally burst our own bubble sometimes. Engage with Ilishan-Remo community more. Seek internships in the "real world" during breaks. Follow what's happening in Nigeria's tech, entertainment, and business scenes. Bring external speakers who'll challenge our thinking.
The bubble has served us well. But graduation comes fast, and the world doesn't operate like Babcock. Let's use our time here to build bridges to that reality, not hide from it.
