We're Too Comfortable: Why Babcock Needs an Extracurricular Revolution
Babcock is comfortable. Maybe too comfortable.
We attend classes, go to chapel, eat, sleep, repeat. But where's the buzz? Where are the student-led initiatives that make campus feel alive? Where are the debate clubs that rage until midnight, the dance crews, the coding competitions, the poetry slams?
I'm not blaming the university entirely—this is on us, the students. We have the freedom to create, but we're not using it. We're living in a bubble of "get your degree and go" when we should be building skills, networks, and experiences that make us unforgettable.
Imagine if Babcock had a thriving startup incubator. A film club that actually produces content. A Model UN that competes nationally. A tech community that hosts hackathons. These aren't fantasies—students at other Nigerian universities are doing this right now.
The administration might not hand us these opportunities on a silver platter, but they've never stopped us from creating them either. So here's my challenge: if you've been thinking about starting something, stop thinking and start doing. Find five people who share your vision. Make noise. Get support.
Let's make Babcock uncomfortable in the best way possible.
